INGREDIENTS LIST FOR THE GARLIC HERB BUTTER STEAK IN OVEN

  • One large, thick rib-eye steak (3 pounds to 1500 grams; for this recipe, we used a tomahawk rib-eye steak)
  • Two onions, cut in half lengthwise
  • Two teaspoons of freshly crushed black pepper, divided; four smashed garlic cloves with the peel on
  • One tsp of kosher salt
  • One optional crumbled beef bouillon cube
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce with low sodium
  • 1/2 cup olive oil or melted butter
  • One tablespoon of your preferred hot sauce (we used Sriracha)
  • one tablespoon of finely chopped garlic
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped Italian flat parsley
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped curly parsley
  • Optional: 1/2 teaspoon red chili pepper flakes

DIRECTIONS

  1. To prepare the Oven Garlic Herb Butter Steak: To bring the steak to room temperature, remove it from the refrigerator at least one or two hours before cooking. Using paper towels, pat dry the entire surface.
  2. Set the broil setting on your oven to 500ºF (260ºC). On both sides, liberally season the steak with salt, pepper, and (optional) crumbled bouillon cube.
  3. Place the steak on top of the pieces of onion and garlic that have been mashed in the baking pan. You’ll use the onions as a roasting rack. Depending on thickness, broil the steak for 5 to 7 minutes on the top rack. Then, flip it over and broil for an additional 5 minutes.
  4. Finish broiling the steak for ten to twelve minutes by lowering the oven temperature to 400ºF (200ºC). The internal temperature of the steak should be measured using an instant-read thermometer: 125ºF (51ºC) for medium-rare, 135ºF (57ºC) for medium.
  5. Take the steak out of the oven, cover it with foil, and let it rest for ten minutes. Meanwhile, combine the soy sauce, red chili pepper flakes, garlic, parsley, spicy sauce, melted butter (or olive oil), and one teaspoon of pepper.
  6. Before serving, slice the meat thinly with a sharp knife, starting with the bone removed, and pour the herb sauce over it. Serve the steak with garlic herb butter right away. Have fun! ❤️

TIPS FOR THE GARLIC HERB BUTTER STEAK IN OVEN RECIPE

  • The key to this recipe for steak is to season the meat liberally before baking it. This will contribute to the roasted steak getting that delicious golden crust that your guests will be raving about!
  • For optimal accuracy, use a meat thermometer.
  • Ensure that the meat has rested before slicing and serving. By doing this, the meat’s natural juices will be able to return and tenderize it. When the meat is resting, cover it with foil to help retain and spread the heat evenly throughout.

CAN I SEAR THE STEAK ON THE GRILL?

Yes, sure. If you want to use your grill: Sear the steak for 3 to 4 minutes on each side, letting the flames lick up the sides. You’ll know the steak is ready to flip when it releases easily from the grill. Then arrange on the baking pan and transfer to the preheated oven.

CAN I SEAR THE STEAK ON THE STOVETOP?

Again, yes. Heat a cast-iron skillet or griddle with a little oil and sear the steak for 4 minutes or more on each side, depending on the thickness. Then arrange on the baking pan and transfer to the preheated oven.

WHAT TO SERVE WITH THE OVEN-ROASTED STEAK
Serve the roasted steak with a side of green beans, mashed potatoes, sauteed baby potatoes, and why not a pan of mixed mushrooms, such as shiitake, portobello, and cremini mushrooms?
