  • Two tablespoons of pure olive oil
  • Half a teaspoon each of freshly ground black pepper and kosher salt
  • two chopped cloves of garlic
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne or paprika
  • One tsp of Italian spice
  • 1/3 cup of recently grated Parmesan cheese, split
  • Shredded mozzarella cheese, 3/4 cup
  • One tablespoon of finely chopped parsley
  • Crushed red pepper flakes, 1/2 teaspoon

HOW TO MAKE CHEESY BAKED CABBAGE STEAKS

To ensure that the cabbage can hold a lot of cheese and seasoning, the secret to making these roasted cabbage steaks is to slice the cabbage head into thick slices. A whole head of cabbage will usually give four or five quite well-kept steaks. The wedges will crumble if you attempt to cut the core out.

Thick slices of cabbage are sliced, and then roasted with a mixture of olive oil, salt, pepper, Italian spice, garlic, paprika, and parmesan. This gives the cabbage crispy edges and a hint of browning.

We then add mozzarella and parmesan cheese to the cabbage and broil it until it becomes bubbling. Easy!

DIRECTIONS

  1. To prepare the steaks of roasted cabbage: Set the oven temperature to 425°F (225ºC). In a separate bowl, mix together olive oil, garlic, paprika, salt, pepper, 1/3 of the parmesan, and Italian seasoning. On a rimmed baking sheet, arrange the cabbage slices in a single layer and brush with the mixture.
  2. Roast the cabbage steaks for 20 minutes or until they are soft and brown. Take the cabbage out of the oven, then sprinkle another third of the Parmesan cheese and some shredded mozzarella over each steak of cabbage.
  3. Turn the oven to broil and broil the cabbage steaks for about three minutes, or until the cheese is bubbling and brown. Present the gooey baked cabbage steaks dusted with chopped parsley, red pepper flakes, and the remaining Parmesan cheese. Have fun! ❤️

TIPS FOR THE ROASTED CABBAGE STEAKS RECIPE

  • Make sure the green cabbage you purchase for this recipe is crisp and fresh. Select a head of cabbage that is dense and substantial relative to its size. The cabbage slices will hold up better as a result. Savoy cabbage can also be used for this dish, although the leaves turn brown rather quickly.
  • This dish for cabbage steak is inherently vegetarian for the main course.
  • Consider using fresh garlic, onion powder, or garlic powder into the sauce.
  • You are welcome to substitute fresh mozzarella slices for the shredded ones.
  • Instead of using mozzarella in this recipe for roasted cabbage steak, you can use any melted cheese. Try Gruyère, a four-cheese mixture, or even add some feta!

WHAT TO DO WITH CABBAGE STEAKS LEFTOVERS?

You can keep the cabbage steaks leftovers for 2 days in an airtight container in your refrigerator. Reheat in the oven for 10 minutes.

IS ROASTED CABBAGE HEALTHY?

You bet! Cabbage gives you plenty of fiber, folate, potassium, magnesium, vitamins C, A, K, and more. If you’re counting calories, cut the amount of cheese in this recipe.

HOW LONG SHOULD CABBAGE COOK?

How long to roast cabbage depends on how you want it: melt-in-your-mouth-tender or crisp-tender? The more you cook the cabbage, the softer the wedges will become. We count about 30 minutes for crisp-tender, but around 20 minutes could work fine.
