INGREDIENTS LIST FOR THE LEMON GARLIC BUTTER STEAK AND BROCCOLI SKILLET
1 1/2 lb (650g) sirloin steak, sliced against the grain
2 broccoli heads, cut into florets
2 tablespoons olive oil
4 garlic cloves, minced
3 tablespoons butter or ghee
Juice of 1/2 lemon
1/4 cup (60ml) low-sodium beef broth
1/4 cup chopped parsley + or garnish
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes, optional
Fresh cracked black pepper, to taste
Fresh thyme, for garnish
The steak marinade:
1/3 cup low-sodium soy sauce (or coconut amino if you’re strictly paleo)
1/2 cup olive oil
1 tablespoon Sriracha sauce (or any hot chili sauce you like)
DIRECTIONS
- In a shallow plate or basin, combine the marinade ingredients (hot sauce, olive oil, and soy sauce). After combining the steak strips with the marinade, refrigerate for half an hour to an hour.
- Wash and separate the broccoli heads into florets in the meanwhile. After blanching the florets for one or two minutes in boiling water, rinse them with cold water.
- After bringing the steak to room temperature, place a large skillet over medium-high heat with oil and one tablespoon of butter; set aside the marinade’s liquids for later. Add more oil if necessary and sear the steak strips in batches for one to two minutes on each side, or until the edges are crispy and browned. Take out the steak slices from
- Reduce the heat to medium while still using the same skillet. Add the lemon juice, minced garlic, beef broth, and the remaining marinade fluids after melting two tablespoons of butter. When the sauce has reduced and the broccoli is cooked to your preference, add the fresh parsley and broccoli florets and bring to a simmer. Stir and toss frequently.
- Return the steak strips to the pan for a rapid reheat. Garnish with lemon slices, additional parsley, thyme, and chilli flakes and serve right away. Have fun!
Notes:
Sear your thinnest steak slices rapidly to avoid drying out the meat.
Alternatively, you can cook the steak whole until it reaches the appropriate doneness, let it rest for a few minutes, and then cut it into strips.
Before cooking, cut the broccoli florets in half if you want them to be more soft.
Double the marinade ingredients if you’d like extra sauce.
Use soy sauce with caution since some kinds contain more salt than others. Ensure that it is low-sodium.
